I have always loved the idea of the Valentine’s Day holiday. Growing up it was a time of hearts, candy and Valentine cards for everyone in school. Even in High School Valentine-grams were sold as a fund raiser by some school groups. The idea: send a card and heart-shaped sucker to all your friends, your sweetie too, if you like.
As an adult, however, the function and the experience of Valentine’s Day is completely different. Valentine’s Day becomes a measure of your success at romantic love. It is a great reminder that you couldn’t get a date one day out of the year. It is a great judge of whether your company is romantic enough and whether they treat you like you are something special. Or not. It is a ruler with which to measure how much love you receive in the shapes of chocolates, roses, diamonds…. After all, if you didn’t receive a diamond, it’s not true love.
This was, at least, traditionally true. Thank goodness things seem to be changing. Now, for those of us on a spiritual path we see this holiday in a whole other light. Because we know that everything is about energy and about shifting our energy in the direction we prefer, we know that no day can measure our romantic love. We know that feelings of not being loved enough or not being romanced properly are actually only a reflection of our energy, our own love. For most of my adult life Valentine’s Day has been a celebration of love. The love you have inside, not the love that someone may give you.
As a celebration of love, I have traditionally participated and held Valentine group dinners, a chance to gather with friends, lovers, family, all. Everyone I love. Sure, receiving a rose is touching and appreciated, but sharing love and joy with many people is a far greater celebration. It becomes more festive, more energized and more grandiose.
Just ask everyone at the Jardin here in San Migule de Allende. I don’t know if all of Mexico is like this or not, but yesterday I was egged upon entering the plaza. To our great surprise the whole town seemed to be out celebrating with music, confetti-filled colored eggs, paper flowers and paper puppet clowns. Everyone was downtown: lovers, families, children and friends. Kids of all ages ran around breaking the eggs on one another, on strangers (like me!), laughing and having a great time. People sat before a concert in front of the cathedral. Families sat on a bench eating fresh corn. Everyone seemed to have received a balloon, clown or paper flower. Everyone was laughing and celebrating. Now that is what Valentine’s Day is really all about when you are on a spiritual path: it is about celebrating Love and Life, with all.

Part Three:
Sunshine
On this trip we did a lot of driving from one city to another, from one site to the next. What a blessing! I was so grateful to get to see to pyramids, which I love seeing. Their energy is always so magical. I feel loved, supported; in my flow. I feel empowered, impacted and able. I am more of myself. I had already known that sacred sites tap me right into my Source Flow.

Focusing on the many things I was discovering and enjoying on this trip has made it easy to stay in my flow this week. Even my dad and his wife’s custom to keep a full schedule, which wore me down quickly from a lack of time to connect with myself didn’t knock me out of my flow.
My dad’s wife, on the other hand, had a harder time than I did at times due to the heat and due to a few little spats between them. She is pretty sensitive to the sun and the heat. Being in the sun for too long gives her headaches, puts her in a bad mood and generally gives her body a hard time. In the car, I’m the opposite. The air conditioning tends to chill me so I prefer the sunny side of the car. Sitting in the back of the car we were a perfect match! I’d warm up in the sun and she’d cool down in the shade. However, being as bothered with the sun as she was, she tended to attract the sunny side of the car, no matter what. She would ask which direction we were driving in to try to avoid the sun or she would trade me sides when we stopped for gas but, inevitably, her side of the car would be hot. While I kept warm with my shall, she got headaches and grumpy.
Once again I couldn’t help but see what life was putting right in front of me. How could I miss it? I heard my father’s wife struggle with the sun every day. Here what struck me most was the fact that it didn’t matter what she did to try to stay shaded because, in her lack of flow, her efforts were fruitless. On the contrary, I was fine. I had brought my crocheting, which I quickly pulled out at the beginning of our road trip to entertain myself. This really helped the time in the car go by quickly for me, putting me in my flow. My dad’s wife, unfortunately, saw me take my crocheting out, sighed and told me that my dad had told her not to take up space by carrying hers since we were flying. Now she longingly looked at my yarn and crochet hook and sighed again. I suggested she buy some yarn and a hook the first chance she could, which she did. Clearly this helped her entertain herself in the car, but she still struggled with being over-heated.
Life’s point this time was a pronounced example of how we really do attract experiences that reflect our energy. She and I each had temperature sensitivity issues and we each crochet, but my experience was far more pleasant than hers. I know that I need to make the choices in life that are most in my flow. I need to allow.
This was a great, illustrated example. So often people talk about being in the flow or having had a great time on a vacation, but they are often comparing apples and oranges. In this life example, she and I are both saying that we had a great vacation and a great time. Nevertheless, I had a completely different experience than she did in many ways, namely by feeling light, enjoying, welcoming the experiences that came my way, even the long day trips that I didn’t prefer or some negativity towards life my dad expressed. Whereas she was grumpy at least once a day, she often said she was having a good time but obviously didn’t mean it and felt ill a few times. Now, I’m not saying she didn’t have a good time, I’m just saying that we had very distinct experiences and that, in my flow state I allowed joy, adventure and knowingness in my experience. Quite a juxtaposition to her journey’s challenges.
My teachers once said to me that it isn’t often in life that I will know things. When you do know something, they said, then use that and act upon it.
It’s not that this was an esoteric secret, it’s just that I’d never thought to think about the fact that there are things I know inherently somehow, things that I have a good idea about and many more that I just don’t know.
So many things in life are uncertain. Most of the time, at best, we make an educated guess, we do our best and hope things work out. But sometimes we know. And when we know, then we also know what to do and where that will lead us. This was their point, when I know, then I should let nothing stop me from using my knowingness.
Today is the anniversary of the day I was born. You may call it my birthday, but since I celebrate my birthday at a different time of year I think of this as a time of year when life seems to open to me. And this week has opened to me.
This week we met my father and his wife in Mexico City and we flew to the Campeche and Yucatan area. We are spending time together, of course, but part of the intent of the trip was for me to see some of my roots, some of my father’s heritage.
The trip has been, unexpectedly, very tourist-like. We have gone and seen Mérida, Campeche, the pyramid sites of Edzná, Uxmal, the city where my dad was born called Ciudad del Carmen; we also went to a small ecological area called Celestún. We saw some family in Ciudad del Carmen and drove around the neighborhood where my father grew up and went to school. We saw his local church and another church who had acquired their land as a donation by one of my father’s uncles. (This uncle had bequeathed quite a bit of land, donating several plots of land to various religions, no doubt to cover his basis!) The only thing that we didn’t get to do was to see my grandparents and great-grand parent’s graves.
Even with all of these sites, nothing stirred me, nothing touched me or felt like it was a part of me or my past. It was as if I were the complete stranger to these places that I am.
Still, I came to a place of knowingness several times on this trip.
Life
Every day I marvel at how amazing life is. It knows us better than we know ourselves and life knows how to take care of us in ways that we barely comprehend, if we are lucky. Life knows what will suit us and what will serve us better than we do because the Law of Attraction simply allows the energy that we are to come forward.
This is a part of the design of life. It brings to us the energy that we are to us so that we may be guided in the right direction every time. In every experience we have, we can allow ourselves to become aware of what we do or do not like about the experience and we can change it. We can became aware of what desires of ours are not being met and we can change this; we can become aware of what we require to be in the flow of our Source Energy and we can allow this to come forward.
The Guidance From Source
We are well provided for by our lives or our Source Energy. Whether we recognize it or not, we are always given what we need to shift our own energy. We have intelligence, the ability to discern, the ability to make choices and the ability to change ourselves so that we may become who we prefer to be.
One of the most powerful and effective tools, or methods, that we have to change ourselves is our imagination. Our imagination is a fun tool because, like energy, it is unlimited. Anyone can imagine anything they choose, which we see in creative story tellers. Because imagination is energy and operates the same way energy does, our imaginations can plant the seed of a new experience for us. Like any seed that is watered and cared for, our imagined idea can grow, attracting more energy to it, until it has enough energetic mass to attract form to it. Another way of saying this is that once we have created a large mass of energy through our imaginations, the Law of Attraction then uses this to attract experiences, people, places and things into our lives.
What You Require
We all require things in life, such as food and shelter. One of the most spiritually advanced concepts that I have ever come across and learned was that what we require, or what we need, is a positive thing, not a negative one. This is to say that what we require, or need, should be seen as a positive thing and not as a weakness within ourselves. People rarely qualify their needs as either genuine requirements for their lives or indulgences that can be damaging, such as the indulgence of an addiction. Spiritually speaking, our genuine needs are the things we need in order to be healthy and whole. These needs are not the needs that are spoken of when an alcoholic says that they need a drink. Quite the contrary, genuine needs are a part of the amazing guidance system that our Source Energy and life have set up to help us along our paths. Our genuine needs point us in the direction of our well-being.

Allow
As multidimensional beings, however, our genuine needs go much deeper than just the needs for food and shelter. The happiest and healthiest people in the world find that they have emotional needs as well, such as the need to have good friends, to be loved and to love their selves; to have their dreams come true, to express their selves and to feel a connection with their Source. A whole person truly has balance in all areas of their lives.
Of course, no one is expecting us to be perfect and have everything we need or desire in life. However, our Source Energy is giving us the guidance and the ability to raise our energy and put ourselves in the flow of our well-being.
Again, one of the most powerful ways for us to do so is through our imagination. Our imagination allows us to see what we need, what we would prefer instead of what we have, and what we require in order to be in our well being physically, emotionally and mentally. When we use imagination this way, it truly fulfills the need, or the genuine requirement, we have. Our imagination can be used to begin to attract our genuine preferences into our lives, the things that will create well-being in us.
If we were to try to imagine another drink when we have an alcohol addiction we would find that our well-being state is not being met. On the contrary, we would simply be separating ourselves more from our well-being and increasing the addiction.
Fooling ourselves into thinking that we are using imagination to create well-being within ourselves when we are really using fantasy and creating more separation is a common mistake. People often reach for fantasy because it tends to relieve any pain they are feeling, just as a drink or a hit of a drug would, in the moment. In the long run, however, it does not create a new energy for us, the way imagination does. On the contrary, in fantasy our energy leaves us; it goes out to the object of our focus, such as the drink.
Losing energy this way can be very detrimental to us because it decreases our ability to attract what we prefer in our lives. We increase our ability when we use the guidance in our lives to know what our genuine requirements, or needs, are and use a tool, like imagination, to attract what we prefer for ourselves in our lives.

It’s Sunday today, we arrived on Thursday. As always, the August jungle is hot, humid, thick and captivating. Of course, it feels hotter to me than it has in the past, but no doubt it always feels this way since I am accustomed to the high desert’s arid, hot summers in Santa Fe.
As always, our hotel is larger than life. A glass of Champaign greeted us at the Premier Lobby, one of four lobbies. Our room was a welcome site – air conditioning, a towel elephant with a flower on it, a fruit basket and beach towels ready to go.
So three days have flown by. We attended Troy & Tina’s wedding rehearsal dinner Friday and the wedding Saturday. Tina is looking beautiful, like a soft, gentle goddess and Troy has been cool as a cucumber in his handsome, ragged way. His day has come and one of his biggest dreams has come true. Now that is a sight to see, I wouldn’t have missed this for anything.
The Mayan wedding ceremony was wonderful. Copal smoke sailed by in the ocean breeze as the couple were blessed, bathed (gently) in beans, were given wedding flowers to wear and had their souls blended with flower petals.
There is no arguing it, this is paradise. The all-inclusive hotel provides delectable meals, unlimited drinks and other such amenities to take care of your every need. Attending a wedding here has been magical from the ocean’s breath to the pre-historic-looking birds flying over head and the Mayan sounds at the ceremony.
As if this weren’t enough, I have been receiving many energetic blessings myself. I have a calling to go to a pyramid of Coba where I know I will re-connect with the energy of the past lives I have seen here and with the messages that are meant to guide me in my own journey through life.
I consider myself blessed to live in my flow.
I consider myself very fortunate for many reasons and one of these is because I have a couple of things in my life where my heart opens. One of these is in the Riviera Maya.
The flight from Albuquerque has gone through Houston so that we have been traveling over half the day.
As we touch down in this mystical place, stepping off the airplane usually gives me a small rush of heaven, relaxation and joy. This time is even more magical. Our first steps outside of the airport and into the thick, dense humid jungle air begin to open my heart. As if I were walking through a magical machine that could attune my energy and myself, within minutes I can feel a fluttering of energy in my heart, a transformation occurring that opens my heart and brings me into a more heavenly connection with my Source Energy. I am home.
Even the hour drive in the shuttle van doesn’t erase the buzz of bliss I am enjoying; the feeling of being loved.
Can you imagine being somewhere that makes you feel as though you are being held, coddled and loved by the jungle all around you, so that only by opening your eyes do you see that you are not being touched? Can you imagine being caressed, kissed and so welcome that your whole emotional body lets go and comes to a place of such deep connection that it knows that all is well in this loving, all-knowing universe?
To come to this place of expansion and knowing is what I see as the Mayan words “inlak- esh” meaning your are me, I am you. That place of recognizing that there is no worry in my life, or yours, that is valid or real because the truth is that all is one and the One is truly only love.

The You On A Tropical Vacation
On vacation we just aren’t ourselves. That is truly one reason we go on vacation.
Because everything is energy first, different places hold different energies, which is really why we go to them. After all, we are looking for a change of scenery, a change of pace. These truly mean that we are looking for a different rhythm, different from our daily routine.
We tend to be attracted to beautiful, magical vacation spots because, after all, they are relaxing and revitalizing. On a good vacation we rest, we let go of our daily concerns and worries and we enjoy ourselves. In other words, we stop being the version of us who worries at home. We leave the version of us that perhaps saves money at home and the version that is busy being uptight. On vacation, at least to some degree, that goes because we are taken with our new environmen, and it’s energy.
Getting away for a trip, especially to a location with a higher vibrating energy, lets us become a version of ourselves that we like more. We can’t help it because we get more into our flow. We tend to slow down on vacation and explore more of ourselves through our interests, the activities,, the food and even the shopping we do. Haven’t you ever bought something wild, like a flowered Hawaiian shirt, that you normally wouldn’t buy at home? It’s because you are tapping into the more lively or colorful you.

Inner Light
We all Shine
The subject of birthdays came up today relative to celebrations. This is an interesting topic because birthdays are sometimes celebrated and sometimes parties are held for birthdays. That is to say that sometimes a person’s life is celebrated and other times there is a birthday which is a reason for having a party.
So, today I mentioned that I’d read a book several years ago called Mutant Message Down Under and that the topic of celebrations was viewed differently by the Aboriginal tribe, which the book is about.
The tribe doesn’t celebrate birthdays (doesn’t even seem to keep track of them) as they see nothing “special” in a certain day once a year. Instead when an individual achieves something for themselves within their lives, such as conquering a new skill or growing in some way, then they let the tribe know and a celebration is created to honor their achievement.
What a powerful position to take! These celebrations are about knowing ourselves so well that we are monitoring our lives and our development. This is a wonderful, empowing way to be! What a great way to view life!
A birthday is the day we were born, and we were all born. Unfortunately, with this there can be nothing extraordinary to us because everyone who is alive was born. From this perspective there is nothing that makes us unique. And yet, we are all unique, we each have an inner light.
We can empower ourselves in our lives by finding our own celebrations, our own achievements and development. After all, we are all different from one another, the way everyone’s finger print is different. And as we each tune into ourselves and our own lives it becomes easier and easier to find what makes us different. Sometimes what makes us extraordinary is our ability to build beautiful things; for others it is the ability to entertain others; some people have green thumbs and still others make great food. Unfortunately, our world tends to judge what is admirable in others and what is not. Often what the media focuses on is the pain and suffering of others or the accomplishments of people that don’t really affect our lives, such as celebrities. But the truth is that our lives and our personal worlds are smaller than our society and there are always people in our lives that have great positive affects and influences over us such as teachers, friends or family. The extraordinary influence of these people in our lives may be insignificant to an outsider, but not to us. Who influences you and your life? Who shines their light into your light? Where do you shine your light on others?
Our own inner light is extraordinary because it is our unique light that brings love and joy to ourselves and to others. That is what makes it worthy of a celebration. What ever it is that we do, our true expression of ourselves and our love, that is a great gift in life. It may go unnoticed by the world, but it need not go unnoticed by ourselves and those with whom we share our lives.
To celebrate our accomplishments and our personal development is to bring intent and purpose to our lives. And to celebrate ourselves in this way is to allow ourselves to become more of who we wish to be.

“Freedom is born of choice. When you are young if you are given choice you then know the energy of freedom. You are meant to know certain energies such as love, connection, safety, exploration, creativity, expression & power. If any of your core energies are missing or under developed, then you are meant to allow them to now enter your life and to develop them in yourself and your expression.”

Who You Choose To Be
Just like seasons have weather themes, so to speak, time does to. I am always focusing on the theme of the energy at hand and guiding my students as to what course of action is most in the flow of the energy at hand so that they may make the most out of what is offered to them. In this way, they are able to get the most bang for their buck, as they say, by working with universal flow.
The theme this year is really about becoming Who we truly are, and I have spoken about this quite a bit. It is about choosing Who we want to be and what we want to experience. When we choose Who we want to be the Law of Attraction (LOA) then sets out to begin to use the energies within us to attract the corresponding experiences to us. In other worlds, just the choice to Be who we wish to be activates energy within us that LOA then uses to attract experiences to us.
Thus, it is crucial to always choose Who we wish to be, especially this year when universal energy is behind us empowering our choices.
I was listening to Neal Donald Walsh the other day. He said that no one does anything that he or she does not choose to in this life. This statement is powerful and true. Although some may say that there are times when they do not have a choice, the point that Neal is making is that we only find ourselves not having a choice when we are empowering an inner victim. We find that we always have a choice in every situation in life when we realize that we have that power. In other words, we need to choose to have this power and then we do.
How To Choose
Becoming Who you wish to be is a rather simple choice that you just make. Within us all there are several possibilities – each person has several interests and/or urgings that tell them about several different people they could be or are. For example, you can be a parent, a friend, a lawyer, a mystic, an honest person and a liar. Just the same, you can choose to leave being a liar behind to become an honest parent. You can leave being a mystic behind to become a dedicated lawyer.
Excuses Not To Choose
It Is Not In The Cards For Me:
Sometimes people think that destiny means that we cannot choose Who we will be. They confuse energetic strengths with destiny because they think that a pre-destined path means that they can’t choose Who they will be. However, this is untrue. You can be Who you wish to be and you can do what you choose, as Neal says. There is no force in the universe that will work against your will and turn you into something you are not. On the contrary, the universe and your Source Energy are actually working to help you become empowered enough that you will allow yourself to become Who and What you truly are, choices that are given to you. A pre-destined event or opportunity can bring you more of Who you are and it can help you, but it never hinders or binds.
Being at a place to empower ourselves and to realize that we can choose Who we are for ourselves is meant to be a natural place of maturity. It is meant to be a part of our process of becoming adults and of being at a point in our lives where we will take on the responsibility for ourselves and for choosing Who “ourselves” is. And yet, this natural stage of life is one that many people have difficulty reaching and coming from.
Life Doesn’t Allow Me:
For many people it is as if they feel that everything has a price in life and that they simply can’t really have what they want, so how could they ever be Who they truly wish to be? These types of feelings are quite common and can be overcome. It is true, none of us are perfect, nor are we meant to be. It is true every person makes mistakes and has weaknesses. Life doesn’t reward or punish based on this; that is simply not how energy and life work. On the contrary, life doesn’t reward or punish us at all, we do. Just feeling as though life is unfair to us is something we place upon ourselves.
See Things Clearly
Why not focus on the light within ourselves? Why not focus on the dreams and desires we hold within ourselves? Why not remember that we make our own choices and that we are the ones determining what energies we activate within us? Why don’t we determine what energies LOA will use to attract our experiences to us?
We all have positive thoughts and negative thoughts, but our thoughts and our feelings do not determine Who we are. Instead, out of all the hurtful feelings and all the violent thoughts that we do have, what determines Who we are is simply what we choose to be. I’m sorry to say that we all have a violent, negative side- but I’m happy to say that, just the same, we all have a beautiful, joyful and loving side. What we seek from within ourselves and what side of ourselves we choose to Be and act from- that is what determines Who we are. These are the simple and powerful choices that determine what kind of person we are. The intention we hold makes the choice to bring forth the energy we choose within ourselves and that is the choice Neal speaks of. We always have a choice as to Who we wish to be and the more often we choose the same aspect of ourselves, be it dark, light, confidant or insecure, that is the energy we activate and increase within ourselves. That is the energy LOA then uses in our lives.
At each turn in life things happen, but how we respond to them and Who we choose to be is what determines what our life will be like tomorrow and Who we are today.
